The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta has inaugurated the Tema Community 3 beach road junction project. The project which was started in January 2019 and executed by Meridian Port Services [MPS] has been expanded to ease vehicular traffic flow in the Harbour area.

In a key note address at the inauguration, the Minister of Roads and Highways said, this became necessary due to the expansion of the Tema Port which increased traffic flow in the enclave. “We had to fix this road to take care of the huge traffic congestion that would arise as a result of activities at the port”. The Minister added that Government will continue the project and expand it into a six- lane dual carriage road to link the new Harbour through the Tema General Hospital Road to the 3-tier Motorway Expansion Project.

The Minister of Roads and Highways Hon. Amoako-Atta used the occasion to announce plans to expand the Tema community 3 junction road to the Nungua barrier, through the beach road to the black star square in Accra. Hon. Amoako-Atta thanked Management, Shareholders and the Board of MPS for the support the Government had received and called on other cooperate entities to offer their social responsibility by emulating MPS in our quest to develop the road infrastructure  in the country. The Minister further warned that the Ministry would not tolerate temporal structures on the shoulders of the road and therefore called on the Department of Urban Roads and Tema Metropolitan Assembly to strictly adhere to that directive so as to preserve the sanctity of the area.

The Chief Executive Officer [CEO] of MPS, Mr. Mohamed Samara in giving the highlights of the project said due to the important nature of the road situated at the crossroads that leads to Accra as well as being the entrance to the port, it was imperative that the project was completed on time. Mr. Samara informed that the objective of the project was to create a new roundabout and four new slip roads within each quadrant of the roundabout to reduce the number of vehicles approaching the roundabout.

Mr. Samara said the upgrade of the road like their previous CSI projects demonstrates their shareholders dedication to human life and commitment to provide solutions that make greatest difference in our communities.

On his part, the Deputy Minister for Transport Hon. Titus Glover expressed appreciation to the Minister for Roads and Highways for the numerous road projects in his constituency aimed at reducing huge vehicular traffic in the area. The Deputy Minister of Transport stated that improvements on our road transport infrastructure is key to the delivery of goods and services across the country and that developments of these nature undertaken by the MPS would enhance the needed growth.

A plague was unveiled to signify the formal completion of the Tema Community 3 beach road project by the Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta together with Hon. Titus Glover, Mr. Mohamed Samara, Dr. Nana Prempeh, the Chief Director and Agency Heads of the Ministry of Roads and Highways and officials from both Tema West Municipal and Tema Metropolitan Assemblies.


The newly improved Tema Community 3 Junction was inaugurated following its opening to the public on the 28th June, 2019 as part of the commencement of operations at the MPS Tema Port.

The project started in January 2019 after a sod-cutting by the Meridian Port Services Ltd [MPS] with support from the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ministry of Transport.

The project which cost $9million was financed by Share Holders of the Meridian Port Services Ltd as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility [CSR] with technical support from the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
