PROFILE OF MRH PUBLIC RELATIONS UNIT

The Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Roads and Highways serves as an intermediary between the Ministry and the Public. The Unit is responsible for creating a positive public perception of the Ministry with the broad aim of securing for government as well as the State public goodwill, understanding and support for overall management of the Sector Policies.

The Unit ensures timely dissemination of information concerning the Ministry and government departments whiles feeding government with the public views, and ensuring a healthy relationship between the government and the public.

The Communication Strategy developed and currently being implemented uses four key approaches namely; Media Relations, Peer Relations, Protocol & Events Management, and Employee Relations.

Some specific functions undertaken by the Unit are:

  • Developing and maintaining good working relations with the media, including local and national newspapers, magazines, radio and television;
  • Initiating and planning PR campaigns
  • Fostering community relations, through events such as public fora and involvement in community initiatives;
  • Writing and editing press releases, speeches and articles;
  • Updating information on the Ministry’s website (www.mrh.gov.gh);
  • Preparing and supervising the production of publicity brochures, handouts, promotional videos, photographs etc;
  • Answering enquiries from individuals, journalists and other organizations;
  • Organizing special events, such as press conferences, exhibitions, open days, tours, competitions and sponsorship;
  • Advising the Minister and his Management on matters affecting the Ministry’s public image.
  • Media Monitoring and Research to ensure that the Ministry is informed in a timely manner about media reportage that is of interest to, or affects the Ministry.
  • Making travel arrangement for Staff and Guests/Dignitaries.
